For centuries, Burns has been regarded as Scotland's Shakespeare, its greatest poet and literary voice. But was he really the original folk singer-songwriter? A new generation of Scottish folk musicians thinks so, and is hailing Burns as Scotland's Woody Guthrie, making him more popular than at any time since his death in 1796. How did he see himself – as poet or songwriter, literary lion or wayfaring minstrel? Scott Alarik and ballad singer Jennifer Evans explore the life and times of Burns, searching through his own songs, words, and dreams to find out what he really meant when he dubbed himself "Scotland's Bard."
